Meet Balsam Acres!

What began with dreams of a Christmas tree farm quickly became a different reality of amazing fruits and vegetables. This week’s featured vendor, Balsam Acres Farm, has some of the most delicious fresh fruits, jams, relishes and produce around.
Balsam Acres Ltd Co, operated by Don and Lynn Lane, was established in 1999 on Carpenter Hill Road in the town of Georgia, Vermont. The original plan that Lynn and Don had for the land was to plant and sell Christmas trees. Their plan was soon altered when they found that the soil was not conducive to growing evergreens! It was however, perfect for growing fruits, vegetables and hops. Eventually becoming proficient in these areas, today their specialty crops include strawberries, red raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, as well as rhubarb.
Balsam Acres has been a staple at the Champlain Islands Farmers’ Markets since the market was established in 2005. They participate in both the South Hero and Grand Isles Farmers’ Markets and have grown right along with the market!
Some of their offerings include jams, jellies, relishes, pickles, salsas, freshly baked breads and an abundance of seasonal fruit. On the farm, Balsam Acres offers pick your own blueberries, red raspberries and black berries in season.
Come by their tent at either market, say hello, and do some sampling of their delicious products. You will be greeted with a warm smile, a hearty laugh and a delicious taste of Vermont!
